Ingredients of Spicy Squid Masala Fry

  2. You need 1/2 Kilogram of Squid.
  3. It's 1/2 Teaspoon of Turmeric powder.
  4. It's 1 of (1/2) Teaspoon Chilly Red powder.
  5. You need 1/2 Teaspoon of Pepper powder.
  6. Prepare 1 Sprig of Curry Leaves.
  7. You need as needed of salt.
  8. It's of Preparation.
  9. It's 2 of coconut Oil.
  10. It's 1 Tablespoon of Coconut Oil.
  11. You need 1 Teaspoon of Mustard.
  12. You need 1/4 Teaspoon of Fennel.
  13. It's 2 of Onion Sliced.
  14. It's 2 of tomato.
  15. It's 1 of Greenchillies.
  16. Prepare 1 Teaspoon of Gingerchopped.
  17. It's 1/4 Teaspoon of Tumeric Powder.
  18. You need 2 Teaspoons of Red Chilli Powder.
  19. You need 1/4 Teaspoon of Pepper Powder.
  20. It's of Salt.
  21. You need 3 of Garlic Crushed.

Getting fresh at Bangalore is a bit difficult. But once we get it, its like heaven for my family. So this time my husband got me fresh squid. Here it is,a "Country Style Koonthal Roast." from my kitchen.

Spicy Squid Masala Fry instructions

  1. Clean and cut the squid into rings and marinate it with above listed ingredients under section 'For Marinade', for 1/2 hour..
  2. In a pan,heat oil and fry the squid/koonthal/kanava, on low flame for 5-8 minutes.(Make sure that you do not over fry it as the meat will become rubbery.) Transfer it to plate and keep aside..
  3. In the same oil, add 1 Tbsp of oil, splutter mustard seeds, add fennel seeds. When it leaves its aroma, add the slices onions, green chilly and ginger to it..
  4. Saute till the onions, turn into light brown in color..
  5. Add turmeric, red chilly and pepper powder. Saute for 2 minutes and add the roughly chopped tomato into it.Let it cook and the gravy turns mushy. Add salt and curry leaves. Saute well..
  6. Now lower the heat and add the fried squid/koonthal to it and mix well. Add 1/4 cup of water, mix well and close the lid and cook for 10 minutes on a medium flame..
  7. Open the lid, add crushed garlic,(no need to stir it),off the flame, drizzle some coconut oil, Close the lid for about 10 minutes or until served, for the flavor to set inside itself..
  8. Delicious squid/kanava/koonthal masala fry is ready to be served..
  9. Serve with hot steamed rice, vellayappam,spongy dosa.....enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!.
